Priorities

Transport - The City is promoting the use of public transport over private cars and until recently the Corporation has allowed electric cars to park for free. This is scheduled to change next year and so I am working to counter this in the Ward by looking at alternatives.

New building works - these dominate the Dowgate area at present with major developments and and the replacement of Victorian water mains. I have instigated the active involvement of the Considerate Contractor Scheme Officers and liaise closely with developers and contractors.

Waste Disposal - I have arranged for cigarette end bins to be installed around the Cannon Street area and continue to explore other methods of keeping the Ward clear of cigarettes and other rubbish.

Rough Sleepers - This is of particular concern in the Steelyard Passage area. So I have been working with the Rough Sleepers Initiative to understand all the perspectives involved and search for resolution to a very complex situation.

Protestors - The right to voice opinion is fundamental to democracy in the UK, however the narrow streets of the Ward make even a small protest difficult for residents and workers. I am working with the police to redirect activities so that voices can be heard but do not disturb.

Knowledge - With my team of two Common Council Members we visit local businesses to ensure people know of the opportunities and facilities available to them in the City whether or not they are in Dowgate or voters. Many do not realise they can join City libraries, use public sport facilities, attend free arts events or join the Vintry and Dowgate Wards Club.
